Hootie Blues
Today is the 53rd anniversary of Charlie Parker's death.
Here it is: his first recorded solo on a record date - from 1941 - at the age of twenty. In case it isn't instantly noticeable to you, his solo is the 12 bar break after the intro and before the vocals. In these thirty seconds of sweeping majesty the young genius was already pointing the way toward a complete reinvention of Jazz.
